Job demands as a psychosocial hazard

Martyn

Job demands are one of the most common workplace psychosocial hazards.

This hazard can include excessive workloads, tight time constraints, resource constraints and unrealistic timeframes to name just a few. We've all experienced increased stress and anxiety when work is too difficult for us, timeframes are unrealistic, resources aren't available, or worse are deliberately kept from us!.

Proper work design, ensuring the technicalities of the work is within the capability of the worker, systems are there for support, adequate time is allocated and good leadership will all contribute to eliminating or minimising this hazard. Equally, when planned properly, they can contribute to the success of the work and wellbeing of the worker.

Check out our Working with Monsters! workshop for more detail of how to support workers and comply with the new psychosocial legislation.
